Secret Weapon to Accomplish a Goal

When deciding how to accomplish a goal or make a new habit, we sometimes plan for the most effective way to summit the achievement. If we want to look great for an upcoming vacation, we diet and exercise accordingly. But often this turns into a chore and we wander from the path of diligence sooner than later.  Here’s a secret weapon to help accomplish a goal: Make it fun!

Make it fun!

If running on the treadmill is like pulling teeth, we know better than to select this as a means of exercise. But, what if we purposely select the activity to not just be tolerable but actually fun? Turn the exercise into a hike with a friend or throwing a ball around with family. Play a sport, ride a bike, or jog to your local café for coffee as a few ideas. Bottom line is make it yours and make it fun.

There have been loads of interesting research on small changes we can take to get closer to achieving goals. One great resource with interesting insight on behaviors and its impact on goals is Wharton’s professor Katy Milkman from the department of Operations, Information and Decisions who just recently published a book “How to Change: The Science of Getting from Where You Are to Where You Want to Be.”

If you want help and accountability with using some of these smart tactics to better reach your goal(s), you can also pair it with discussions with a life coach to help you recognize obstacles and find fun workarounds.
